James Thadeus Holtzclaw, an Alabama lawyer, served as a general in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, playing a prominent role in several major engagements of the Army of Tennessee in the Western Theater. After the war he practiced law and served as a railroad commissioner. He was born in 1833 and died in 1893.
