Nathan B. Forrest

Nathan Bedford Forrest rose rapidly from private to general in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, noted for his aggressive cavalry tactics. After the war, he was inaugurated as the first Grand Wizard of the Reconstruction-era Ku Klux Klan. He was born in 1821 and died in 1877.

James R. Chalmers

James Ronald Chalmers, a slaveowner and politician, served as a general in the Confederate States Army who commanded infantry and cavalry in the Western Theater during the Civil War. He was born in 1831 and died in 1898.

Edmund W. Rucker (w&c)

Edmund Winchester Rucker served as a Confederate officer during the Civil War. After the war he became an industrial leader in Birmingham, Alabama. Fort Rucker in Alabama was named in his honor until 2023. He was born in 1835 and died in 1924.

Abraham Buford

Abraham “Abe” Buford II served as a soldier in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War before joining the Confederate States Army in 1862, where he served as a cavalry general in the Western Theater of the Civil War. He was born in Kentucky in 1820 and died in 1884.
