Edward Moody McCook served as a Union cavalry general during the Civil War, part of the celebrated “Fighting McCook” family of Ohio, which produced numerous officers on the Union side. He led cavalry divisions in the Western Theater, including during the Atlanta and Wilson’s Raid campaigns. After the war he served as a diplomat and as territorial governor of Colorado.
