Lucius F. Hubbard enlisted as a private in 1861 and rose to Colonel of the 5th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, leading the regiment through the siege of Corinth, the siege of Vicksburg, and the Battle of Nashville, where he commanded a brigade.
