Wilbur F. Goodspeed commanded Battery A, 1st Ohio Light Artillery (also known as Cotter’s Battery), rising from Captain to Major during the Civil War. His battery served with the Army of the Cumberland in major Western Theater engagements including Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin, and Nashville, providing artillery support to Union infantry throughout these campaigns.
