Walter C. Whitaker (1823–1887) was a Union brigadier general from Kentucky who commanded the 6th Kentucky Infantry and later led brigades and a division in the IV Corps. He was wounded at Stones River, Chickamauga, and Chattanooga, and fought at Resaca, Franklin, and Nashville. He survived the war despite his wounds and afterward practiced criminal law in Louisville, struggling with alcoholism in his later years.
