Samuel Beatty was a Union brigadier general from Ohio who commanded the 19th Ohio Infantry before leading brigades and divisions in the Army of the Cumberland. He fought at Shiloh, Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga, and Missionary Ridge, and at the Battle of Nashville led a diversionary assault on Peach Orchard Hill. He survived the war, mustered out in 1866, and returned to farming in Ohio until his death in 1885.
