John Bell Hood was a Confederate general during the Civil War, known for his aggressive tactics as a division and corps commander in the Army of Northern Virginia before taking command of the Army of Tennessee in 1864. He led the disastrous Franklin-Nashville Campaign that effectively destroyed his army. He was born in Kentucky in 1831 and died in New Orleans in 1879.
