Colonel Jesse Hale Moore, a Methodist minister, commanded the 115th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, appointed in September 1862. He led troops at the Battle of Chickamauga and through the Atlanta Campaign, including the battles of Franklin and Nashville, and was brevetted brigadier general upon his June 1865 discharge. Moore survived the war, later serving as a U.S. Representative from Illinois (1869-1873) and as U.S. Consul at Callao, Peru, where he died in 1883.
