Jacob Ziegler served as Captain of Company H, 13th Pennsylvania Volunteers, one of the state’s three-months regiments raised after the fall of Fort Sumter in 1861. He was elected captain upon the promotion of Captain Purviance to lieutenant colonel, but resigned his commission on May 11, 1861, before the regiment saw major combat. Little else is documented about his later life.
