Horatio N. Whitbeck

Horatio N. Whitbeck rose from first lieutenant to lieutenant colonel of the 65th Ohio Infantry, commanding the regiment at Stones River and Chickamauga. He was wounded three times in action, at Stones River, Chickamauga, and Kennesaw Mountain, where a shell fragment fractured his clavicle and lodged in his chest. Discharged for wounds in 1865, he was later breveted brigadier general and remained a pensioner troubled by his injuries for years.
