George W. Hoge

George Blaikie Hoge organized and commanded the 113th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, the “Third Chicago Board of Trade Regiment,” mustered in near Chicago on October 1, 1862. As colonel he led the regiment through Grant’s Central Mississippi Campaign and the capture of Fort Hindman at Arkansas Post, then through the Siege of Vicksburg, where his men served as skirmishers pressing Confederate defenders until the city’s surrender in July 1863.
