Frank Askew served with the 15th Ohio Infantry, commanding the regiment as lieutenant colonel at the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863 and later leading it as colonel. Under his command the regiment also fought at Shiloh, Stones River, Missionary Ridge, throughout the Atlanta campaign, and at Nashville.
