Charles Cruft

Brigadier General Charles Cruft commanded the 31st Indiana Infantry and later a division in the IV Corps. He was wounded at Fort Donelson, Shiloh, and Richmond, Kentucky, and went on to fight at Stones River, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and in the Atlanta and Nashville campaigns. Brevetted major general in 1865, he survived the war, resumed his Terre Haute law practice, and helped found Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
