Charles C. Doolittle

Charles Camp Doolittle served in the 4th Michigan Infantry before becoming colonel of the 18th Michigan Infantry in August 1862. Wounded at the Battle of Gaines’ Mill during the Peninsula Campaign, he later commanded Union forces in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, defending Athens and Decatur, Alabama. Breveted major general of volunteers, he was mustered out in 1865 and became a bank cashier in Toledo, Ohio, where he died in 1903.
