Adam Gale Malloy, an Irish immigrant, served as a Union Army officer during the Civil War and was given an honorary brevet to brigadier general after the war. He later became a Republican politician and was an unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas in 1892. Born in County Tipperary, Ireland, in 1830, he died in Escondido, California, in 1911.
