Melancthon Smith
Melancthon Smith, a graduate of the United States Military Academy, served as a colonel in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, commanding artillery with the Army of Tennessee in the Western Theater. After the war he worked as a journalist. He was born in 1829 and died in 1881.
