Samuel G. French (absent, sick)
Samuel Gibbs French, a West Point graduate, served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War before resigning to manage a Mississippi plantation. During the Civil War he served as a major general in the Confederate States Army. He was born in New Jersey in 1818 and died in 1910.
