THE WORK NEVER STOPS – BONT CLEANS UP REDOUBT NO. 1 OVERGROWTH AS PART OF ON-GOING BATTLEFIELD MAINTENANCE

The Battle of Nashville Trust dedicated the first week of July to clearing out overgrowth that was closing in on the grounds of Confederate Redoubt No. 1 on Benham Avenue, part of the never-ending process of preserving the Battlefield for posterity.

On a day on which the weather was the exact opposite of the cold, rainy day of Dec. 15, 1864, when the first day of the Battle of Nashville raged on this site, BONT cleared out invasive underbrush, encroaching bamboo cane, and small trees so that the view from over the cannon barrels to the north was reopened as much as possible given the advance of residential develop over the last 160-plus years.

As usual, BONT relied on the hard work and expertise of its long-time partner, The Parke Company, to get the job done, and done well. At the time of the battle, Confederate artillery and infantry units at this site had a wide-open view of the low ground between its gun barrels and the city of Nashville – a view that was signficantly restored by this project.
