THE BATTLE OF NASHVILLE TRUST CALLS ON VOLUNTEERS FOR AN IMPORTANT “PARK DAY” CLEAN-UP OF SHY’S HILL IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE AMERICAN BATTLEFIELD TRUST
On April 25, 2026, The Battle of Nashville Trust will again participate in the annual Park Day event, this year one of the most important ever as BONT continues to restore the grounds following the historic January ice storm.
BONT members, and any and all volunteers interested in the care and maintenance of this historic ground, are invited to join the BONT Board at the Shy’s Hill Trailhead on Benton Smith Rd. at 9:00 a.m. to begin restoring the Hill. Bottled water will be provided. Volunteers should feel free to bring any outdoor work tools such as hedge clippers, heavy rakes, bow saws, axes and shovels.

“Plan on dragging limbs to the street, cutting invasive plants, and doing some path work. Any volunteers who understand the significance of maintaining this hallowed ground are invited and appreciated,” said Bobby Whitson, President of BONT.
Park Day is held annually in conjunction with The American Battlefield Trust and is now in its 30th year. The spring clean-up event has provided an avenue to refresh battlefields and other historic sites in time for tourist season, and this year, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Volunteers will be joined by participants at more than 100 sites across the country, banding together to give back to their communities.
Like BONT, The American Battlefield Trust is dedicated to preserving America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educating the public about what happened there and why it matters today. The nonprofit, nonpartisan ABT has protected more than 60,000 acres associated with the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War.
